Ok, ok, ok...

So it's circa 1967 and not 50s, but how could we say no to this peach of a house? I must say guys and gals - I am in love! It has 2 living rooms, a game room, an office, a dining room, an inlaws suite (with it's own kitchen), and even a pool. And would you look at that fireplace in the game room? Oh my, I think I'm in love!

Hi,
I have a 50's split level home, which I decorate with the same enthusiasm as I give to my modernist shop and web site. I can't see living anywhere, and not enjoying it. Makes no sense to me. When we bought our home (you can see in on my web site via the "Shop" page, inside the "Friends and Customers" gallery. Our shots are titled "Our Home"), the wooden areas outside were painted gray. It looked okay...against the red brick...but it wasn't correct for the 1958 look. I did my homework, thought about the direction I wanted to take the decor, and had the wood repainted a pale aqua. THIS shocked the neighborhood. We had LOTS of "stroll-bys", if you know what I mean. I'm patient. I deal with confused customers every day. Many people don't understand THEIR OWN century. One neighbor, who owns an antique car, said I'd really messed up our house (everyone else has theirs painted in color schemes from the 1700's. Ugh) and he wondered how I could DO such a thing to it. I said "I think your antique car would look better in that new pearl white Nissan is using on their 350Z sports car." He said "What are you, nuts?" I said "So, you value original appearance?" "Of course!"
..................and then he got it, fell silent, and has never mentioned it again. Later, when our home was photographed for the book "New Classic Style" (Better Homes and Gardens), we THEN earned a certain tolerance, if not respect, by those with mailboxes that look like hitching posts and door knockers in the form of early
American brass eagles...

Hang in there. It's worth it.

It may not be 50's era but that is one sweet house! You can totally give it 50's touches inside and out. I searched for a 50's ranch for a long time but ended up with a Tudor...the two couldn't be further apart! My husband and I just pretend that it IS the 50s' ranch that we wanted and decorate it like it is. Good luck! I hope you get the house! :)
